Nadia Marshall and Tatiana Roseborough combined for 33 points Tuesday night, leading the Bainbridge High School Lady Cats to a 60-44 Region 1-AAAA victory over the Westover High School Lady Patriots.
Marshall poured in a game-high 20 points. Roseborough put in 13 and Alexis Russ, Kiarra King and Asia Gordon all scored 8. Tyra Smart scored 3.
Lady Cats head coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his team played well overall against the Lady Patriots.
“We started a little slow offensively and missed some close layups and put backs, but then we settled down and hit some key jump shots,” coach Cochran said. “I thought we played well defensively all four quarters.”
Marshall’s layup off the right glass with 4:57 left in the first quarter gave the Lady Cats an early 6-2 lead, and they went on to build a nine point, 12-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. They increased their advantage to 10, at 15-5, when Gordon hit a 3-point jumper from the right side. They led 30-16 at halftime.
The Lady Cats went up by 22, 40-20, when Roseborough hit a jumper from the right baseline with 5:25 left in the third quarter. They were up 47-28 entering the fourth quarter.
A three-point jumper by Russ with 5:43 left in the fourth quarter put the Lady Cats up 49-37 and they continued to build their lead the rest of the way.
The Lady Cats returned to regular season action Friday when they traveled to Sylvester to take on the Worth County High School Lady Rams in a Region 1-AAAA game.
Tonight, which is senior, they will host the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets in their finial regular season home game.
Special guest will be former Bearcats football and basketball player James Butler, a member of the Georgia Tech Sports Hall of Fame and the New York Giants, who defeated the previously undefeated New England Patriots 21-17 February 5, 2012 in Super Bowl XLVI.
