Brothers Jack and Sam McRae combined for 42 points Friday at Perry Memorial Gymnasium, leading the Grace Christian Academy Cougars to a 72-51 Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 3-AA victory over Valdosta’s Highland Christian Academy Eagles.

Jack, who led the way with 25 points, also pulled down 13 rebounds, blocked a shot and dished out 7 assists. Sam scored 17 points, pulled down 4 rebounds, blocked a shot and had 4 assists.

The Cougars, who are 14-6 overall and 6-1 in region play, concluded their regular season Tuesday when they traveled to Valdosta to take on the Georgia Christian School Generals.

They will begin play in the Region 3-AA tournament Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Bainbridge State College. It will continue Thursday and conclude Friday with the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. and the championship game at 8:30 p.m.

Behind the McRae brothers in the Bearcats scoring chart Friday were Nate Watson with 9 points and 10 rebounds, Dakota Vickers with 4 points and 2 assists and Clay Wells with 2 points and a rebound.

Cougars coach Mallory McRae thought his team performed well on offense and defense against the Eagles.

“Our guys executed well tonight,” coach McRae said. “Highland is a very athletic physical team. We were able to match up with them and control the pace of the game. That was the last game those seniors will play on the home court. It was a great night. I’m just happy to be able to be a part of it.”

Coach McRae said the team’s goal is to go back to work, stay focused and get ready for the Region 3-AA Tournament.

“Our focus throughout the season has always been strong during practice sessions and games and that is a credit to our young men,” McRae said.
