Dan Stone has announced his intention to run for Decatur County Chief Magistrate.
Stone has been involved in law enforcement for almost 30 years, working at Bainbridge Public Safety from 1989-95, at the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office from 1995-99 and has been with the Colquitt Police Department ever since.
“I believe you need somebody in there that is familiar with everything,” Stone said. “I’m familiar with all aspects – civil and criminal. You need somebody that is in the office that can look at the paperwork and decide whether it is good or no good.”
Stone said he has the experience, the knowledge and the dedication to do the job.
While at the DCSO, Stone was a senior deputy who helped start the SWAT team and also served as a training instructor. At CPD, he is a patrol commander and the assistant chief, the code enforcement officer and the head instructor for both Colquitt and Miller County law enforcement. Stone is also a member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1985-1988.
“With 30 years of experience, I know what to look for, I know what is supposed to be there and I know how it is done right,” Stone said. “I won’t accept anything other than it being done right.”
Stone has four children and four grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way.
