The Bainbridge High School and Middle School wrestling teams held their joint end of year banquet Tuesday evening. The high school team celebrated a successful season during which they went 10-4 as team, had two individual region champions and two wrestlers finish in the top ten in the state AAAA tournament.

At the banquet, Daniel Allen was named middle school wrestler of the year. Quayde Hawkins was named most improved middle school wrestler, Arkeavious Marshall received the coach’s award, Kendall Glover received the hustle award and Brian Chinell was named rising star. Blaise Allen received the dedication award and Caleb McDowell received the sprit award.

Tyler Storey was honored during the banquet for becoming the first wrestler in school history to break 100 wins. He graduates with a school record 103 career wins. Storey won his second consecutive area championship this season and advanced to the 170-pound state tournament after finishing fourth in sectionals. He was also awarded the coach’s award.

Junior Ryan Adams was named wrestler of the year after finish seventh in the 220-pound division at the state tournament. He was originally an alternate for the state tournament after finishing ninth in sectional, but he was added to the field at the last minute following an injury to a wrestler who qualified. Adams responded by going to 2-2 in the tournament and securing the highest ever finish by an alternate.

“I was very proud to be Ryan’s coach and I was very thankful for the effort he gave me and his team,” Head Coach Chad Smith said after the state tournament. “Ryan was one our best wrestlers throughout the year.”

Curtiss Watson received the Brian Hines Spirit Award, which was named for a former wrestler this year.

“This year I’m dedicating and naming our Spirit award after Brian Hines,” Smith said. “Brian was a wrestler the first three years of Bainbridge High’s program back in 1998-2000. He was the epitome of spirit. Brian was relentless in his ability to support his team, pick up his teammates and keep the energy high. When naming this award I had only but one option, Brian Hines was the only name that came to mind. Such a spirited guy.”

Peyton Register was named most improved wrestler and he also won the hustle award after win an area championship in the 126-poud division. The scholar athletes awards went to Jacob Floyd, Watson, Register, Adams and Deandre Lewis.
