The family of Quentieria Knight has filed a civil suit alleging that Elberta Crate was negligent and contributed to her death on April 29, 2016.

Knight was found deceased in her car with multiple gun shot wounds early on the morning on April 29. Her car was found on Zorn Road near Highway 27 North. Demarquis Glenn, who worked with Knight at Elberta Crate, was arrested and charged with the murder. Decatur County Sheriff’s officers believe that he shot and killed her after asking for a ride home from work.

In the complaint filed on behalf of Knight’s family, it is alleged that Elberta Crate “had actual and constructive knowledge of criminal activity existing on its property prior to the subject incident” and that Elberta Crate was “negligent in failing to maintain, inspect, patrol and manage” its premises.

Her family is asking for a jury trial and damages equal to the full value of her life “as a result of [Elberta Crate’s] negligence leading to the death of Quentieria Knight.”
