Funeral services for Louie Carlton Gainous, 58, of Cairo, Ga., are at 2 p.m.,Saturday, April 29, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Cairo. Rev. Whit Byram will officiate. Mr. Gainous passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
Mr. Gainous was born on April 28, 1958, in Cairo, to the late Louie Carlton Gainous, and Olga Glover Gainous, who survives. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cairo. On July 21, 1984, he married Suela Goodson Gainous with whom he had three daughters.
Survivors include: his wife, Suela Gainous of Cairo; daughters, Brittney Gainous King (J.L.) of Tifton, Ga., Anna Carlton Gainous of Atlanta, Ga., Aubrey Rebecca Gainous of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, James Lory King, III “Tripp” of Tifton, Ga., Carlton Brantley King of Tifton; mother, Olga Gainous Woodward of Bainbridge; sister, Karen Gainous Jones (Timmy) of Cairo, GA; brother, Jeffery Gainous of Bainbridge; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louie Carlton Gainous.
He served as athletic director and an administrator at Cairo High School for many years. Prior to then, he coached football among many other sports at Bainbridge High School, Colquitt County High School, and Cairo High School.
He will be dearly missed by many family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Carlton Gainous Memorial Fund to Benefit Cairo High School students. Donations will be received at Five Star Credit Union or can be sent by mail to 818 First Avenue NE, Cairo, Georgia 39828.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church from 12 noon until the funeral hour of 2 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Timmy Jones, J.L. King, Bart Goodson, Jeffery Gainous, Tom Fallaw, Steve Bench, Tim Kelshaw, and Tommy Howell.
