Marjorie Elizabeth Harrell was born in Climax, Ga. on May 2, 1921, to Mary Elizabeth and Thomas Jefferson Harrell. She was a “blue baby” weighing 2 lbs and not expected to survive. Kept warm by the fireplace, held by neighbors and friends in a wooden box, and hot bricks. Her life ended one day before a planned special 96th birthday celebration.
Marjorie graduated from Climax High School, Class of 1941. She enjoyed many yearly school reunions. She was married to Wallace Regan Grover on September 27, 1947. Margie was a long time member of Climax Baptist Church.
Margie was well known for decorating wedding and other special occasion cakes, sewing both formal and casual clothes for family without a pattern, managing a local boarding house with her mother where they fed many locals home cooking on a daily basis, and delivering box dinners to passenger trains or anyone wanting a “to go” dinner from 1928-1979.
Margie enjoyed playing on the high school basketball team, which began a life long love of basketball. Watching many college and professional games, she was especially proud when the WNBA became a reality.
Her “miracle” daughter was born in 1957, and was her parents’ pride and joy.
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Carr Price and her husband, Wayne; her grandchildren, Joe Carr, Damien Carr, Dana Dickey, Danny Dunbar and Ange Mahfouz; her great-grandchildren, Jade and Seth; her sister-in-law, Libby Grover Allen; her nephews, Tom Kelley, Grover Allen, Wade Brock and Wendell Brock; her nieces, Janice Kelley, Julie Baldwin and Margaret Ann Parker; and many extended family and friends.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Grover; her mother and father; her infant sister; her sister Mary Louise Harrell Kelley and brother-in-law, Clifton Kelley; her sister-in-law, Virginia Grover Brock and brother-in-law, Charlie Brock.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to her niece, Janice Kelley, who resided with Margie and Donnie Culver and Emma Douglas who gave invaluable support.
