Bainbridge Bearcat football is now in its second week of spring practice and is staring down Friday’s spring game against Thomasville High School. Spring practices reveal a lot about a team, and for the Bearcats the improvements have been a promising sign for head coach Jeff Littleton.

Spring practice gives coaches a first glimpse of what they have to work with in the fall, and for Bainbridge, graduating seniors and coaching changes make that all the more susceptible to chaos. However, according to Littleton Bainbridge has done the opposite.

“We’ve got a pretty smooth transition as far as coaching, only one new coach right now on the offensive line,” said Littleton. “Everybody is working hard, everything is progressing and we’re doing things differently on offense.”

The differences on offense will be noticeable in the spring game. The changes are small though; according to Littleton the average fan will not notice a difference.

For the players, the upcoming senior class has brought a welcomed level of intensity to practice. From energy, to holding younger players accountable and showing them the ropes, the upcoming seniors have grown tremendously according to Littleton.

“Senior class is doing a great job right now of showing excitement at practice and showing by example,” Littleton said. “They’re being vocal about some things, holding kids accountable about missing practice and things like that. They’re doing a really good job right now with helping the coaching staff.”

Another good sign to come from the first week of practice is that the off-season program has built players up.

According to Littleton, the players who are incoming to high school have learned that it is a new level and those who may not have played on Friday nights have picked up the intensity.

“What’s improved is our attitude and our work ethic,” said Littleton. “It (off-season program) improved our leadership and that’s what we want to focus on. Bringing intensity and excitement to practice. Its fun and everybody is getting better.”

The Bearcats face off against Thomasville High School at Centennial Field on Friday.
