Jeremy Freeman signed a scholarship on Monday to play basketball at Johnson University in Kissimmee, Florida.

“I liked the coach,” Freeman said. “I liked his attitude. He was just so determined. He wants to get me better. I can just see the future.”

Freeman said the opportunity to play at Johnson will make him better not just at basketball, but as a person as well.

That’s also one of the reasons his mother, Janice, was so interested in the school.

“I’m very excited,” Janice said. “It’s a chance to go to Kissimmee. It’s supposed to build him up, encourage him to play his hardest.”

Freeman started in 29 games his senior year, averaging 6.3 points per game. He scored 175 total points, going 56-of-166 on field goals with three 3-pointers.

He had 49 offensive rebounds, 44 defensive rebounds, 39 assists, 27 steals and eight blocks.

Bainbridge coach Terry Smith said Freeman was a strong offensive player, and he hoped he would get stronger on defense while at Johnson.

“I think he will do well,” Smith said. “I only had him for one year, but in that one year, you could tell he has potential. I think getting away from home and getting down there and meeting new people and friends, he will grow and develop.”

Freeman will major in Sports and Fitness Leadership while at Johnson University.

“I am very pleased that Jay is coming to us. He provides a spark that will be good for our other guards to contend with. I love his attitude and his teachable spirit. I look forward to teaching him on and off the court,” stated head coach Craig Wilsman. “He brings his experience as a true freshman and will compete with both the varsity and junior varsity players as he grows into the collegiate game.”
