Tuesday afternoon a vehicle rear-ended a school bus that was stopped at the railroad tracks in front of the Blind Factory. Luckily, the bus driver said she had just dropped off her last student when she was rear-ended.
It is believed the driver did not realize the bus was stopping, although the bus driver said she signaled.
The 20-year-old driver has been identified as Shelby Chapman. She has admitted to being on her cellphone when the accident occurred. She was coherent when Bainbridge Public Safety was able to get her out of the vehicle. Although no injuries seemed apparent, BPS was concerned about the possibility of internal injuries due to the severity. Life-Flight was called to escort Chapman to the hospital for evaluation.
