Senior Tre Storey signed a scholarship Monday to wrestle at Life University in Marietta.
Storey took second place at the state meet in the AAAAA 195-pound weight class and is a two-time region champion. He finished his senior year with a 40-3 record while sealing the single season win record of 40 and a career win record of 104.
“It’s a good school,” Storey said about Life University. “Coach is really great, he’s a nice a person.”
Life wrestling coach Omi Acosta met Storey almost two years ago at a wrestling camp at Cook County High School. The first thing Acosta noticed about him is how hard of a worker he was.
“He’s humble and always eager to learn,” Acosta said. “That’s what I’m looking for when I recruit guys to come onto my team. Obviously, he said he wants to do better in wrestling and academics. He seems like a good fit for my program, and I have a good relationship with the coach here, so that makes it even better.”
Bainbridge coach Chad Smith helped get another Bearcat, Ryan Adams, into Life University’s wrestling program a year ago.
“He has taken two in two years,” Smith said. “Just a great college and great guy.”
Life University is a private medical university that specializes in chiropractic training. Storey wants to someday be an athletic trainer, so it was a perfect fit for him.
He will enroll this summer.
