Rainy weather forced the 60th anniversary celebration of the choral music program at Cairo High School inside Monday, but that did not dampen the spirits of the concert goers and participants.
Billed as “Chorus on the Greens” the celebration featured all three people to serve as directors of the CHS Chorus since it was founded in the 1957-1958 school term.
Edwin Timmerman, the founding director, was recognized for his many years of service as was his successor, Michael Inlow. Timmerman directed the choral program at CHS from 1957 until 1996 and Inlow served as the choral leader from 1996 until 2017.
The program is currently under the leadership of Erikka Edwards.
The CHS Chorus, Men’s Choral Ensemble, Advanced Women’s Choral Ensemble as well as the choirs from Eastside, Northside, Southside and Washington schools all performed.
“Although we had to move the event inside because of inclement weather,we still had a great turnout. I would like to thank all of the schools that participated including, Northside, Southside, Eastside, Washington Middle and our very own Cairo High School. A special thanks goes to Ms. Erikka Edwards for coordinating and planning this event. It was a very special evening for Cairo High School, as the founder of the CHS choral program, Mr. Edwin Timmerman, and former director Michael Inlow were recognized. Without these two individuals, our choral program would not be as successful as it is today,” Cairo High School Principal Chris Lokey said.
