L. Cuy Broome

 Funeral services for L. Cuy Broome, 97, of Cairo, Ga., are at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Cairo. Rev. Ron McCaskill and Rev. Chris Allen will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Interment will be in Broome Cemetery, Cairo. Mr. Broome passed away at his home in Cairo on Monday, July 23, 2018.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Garver, Brandon Oliver, Jeffery Cuy Broome, Daniel Broome, Robbie Mitchell and Michael Garver.

Mr. Broome was born on March 4, 1921, in Cairo, to the late William T. Broome and Julia F. Hall Broome. He served his country in the United States Navy. On June 27, 1963, he married Evelyn Barfield Broome, who survives. He owned and operated the Cuy Broome Insurance Agency for over 60 years. He was a devoted member of the Cairo First Baptist Church where he served at Preschool Director and Chairman of the Deacons for several terms. He served as Rotary President and Chamber of Commerce President over the years. He was active in Boy Scouts, Cancer Funds other community services. His favorite retreat was the old family homeplace where he created a special place for his family and friends to gather.

Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Barfield Broome of Cairo; daughters, Joy H. Broome of Cairo, Dianne Garver (Michael) of Cairo; daughter-in-law, Debbie Broome of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Dana Mitchell (Robbie) of Cairo, Tony Garver (Nichole) of Thomasville, Ga., Kristin Ching (Nathan) of Hawaii, Jeffrey Broome (Kristina) of Jacksonville, Daniel Broome (Jessica) of Jacksonville, Laura B. Oliver (Brandon) of Jacksonville; great-grandchildren, Quinn Mitchell, Kaitlyn Mitchell, Elaina Mitchell, all of Cairo, Eva Garver, Eli Garver, both of Thomasville, Joseph Ching, Samuel Ching, Anna Faith Ching, Timothy Ching, Matthew Ching, Caleb Ching, all of Hawaii, Lily Broome, Lucia Broome, Jonah Broome, Jeffery Cuy Broome, Jacob Broome, Elise Broome, Cuy Broome, all of Jacksonville; sister-in-law, Jane Broome of Huntsville, Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, L. Cuy Broome, Jr.; brother, Malcolm Broome; and sisters, Eva B. Stewart, Alma B. Wilder, Johnnie Bell B. Higdon, Mable B. Draffin, Glenna B. Bryant.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, July 27, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
