The Decatur County School System is one of 30 winners Kajeet’s second annual Homework Gap Grant. Winners span the nation, from California to Maine. Each applicant offered an inspiring story about how Kajeet can help their students succeed with filtered and managed mobile connectivity.
This year, 30 schools and districts were awarded the Homework Gap Grant. The grant is designed to help schools and districts pilot a mobile connectivity program so students can complete their homework at home, on the go, or on the school bus. Initially, Kajeet planned to award 15 grants, and after seeing substantial need and many compelling applications, the company doubled the number of winners.
Grant recipients receive either a 10-unit Kajeet SmartSpot® solution or 1 (one) Kajeet SmartBus™ solution powered by the Kajeet Sentinel® cloud platform, which includes safe, filtered and managed 4G LTE wireless Internet outside the classroom for the 2018-2019 academic school year. Schools will experience the full Kajeet customer-first service, with Kajeet working with the schools all year long to assist and track student success. Of the 30 winners, four districts will pilot the Kajeet SmartBus solution, and 26 will provide Kajeet SmartSpot (Wi-Fi hotspot) devices to their students.
“Because the need for digital equity continues to increase as schools move learning online, year after year we see more school districts addressing the need to provide students with equal access,” said Daniel Neal, the CEO and founder of Kajeet. “And with an increase in digital learning, there is increased need for connectivity. For a second year in a row, we made the decision to help these passionate technology leaders make an even greater difference in their communities and improve resources for their students.”
Kajeet partners with over 710 schools and districts across the U.S. to provide safe, mobile Internet access to all students. The Kajeet Sentinel platform is the core of the Kajeet K-12 connectivity solutions, powering the Kajeet SmartSpot and Kajeet SmartBus on six North American 4G LTE wireless networks. With provisioning, filtering, device management, asset allocation tracking, network security, analytics and reporting tools all in one convenient SaaS cloud-based platform, schools and districts easily and securely connect students to the mobile and digital world across multiple carrier networks. Students focus on their schoolwork and remain safe from malicious web pages and any known viruses. CIPA-compliant filters help keep students on task, while the Sentinel dashboard provides administrators complete visibility into student usage patterns and suspicious activity on the network.
