The Bainbridge Lady Cats softball team (15-0) is No. 1 in the state in Class AAAAA after a big win over Harris County Tuesday.
The Lady Cats’ offense kicked into gear midgame on their way to a 5-2 win over the Lady Ti-gers. Bainbridge was down 2-1 going into the fourth inning.
“I’ve been on teams before that when one team is ahead the other team folds, but we never batted an eye we just kept chipping away,” said coach Christopher Bryant.
Cannon banged out a home run to left field in the fourth to get the Lady Cats bats going. Addi-son Enfinger followed that up with an inside-the-park home run to give Bainbridge a 3-2 lead.
Cannon made noise again in the fifth inning when she hit a triple to drive in two more runs and give the Lady Cats the 5-2 lead. She finished the day going 2-for-3 with one run scored and three RBIs.
Lexie Delbrey was credited with the victory for the Lady Cats. She surrendered two runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out 12.
“Halle hits a solo shot in the fourth inning and then Addison hits an in the park and then Halle comes up again and hits a triple, and any time we have that kind of lead we take it away,” said Bryant. “Lexie then came out and said, ‘I got this coach, y’all sit back and watch.’ As it is with every game, they put forth a heck of an effort.”
Bainbridge’s next game is Tuesday at Thomas County Central at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Cats return home for Senior Night next Wednesday against Thomasville at 5:30 p.m.
