Shirley Ann Foister was born January 15, 1940, in Mitchell County, Ga., the daughter of Norman and Safronie Faircloth Foister. She was a graduate of Hopeful High School. Shirley married J. L. Thompson and they made their home in Atlanta. After nearly 40 years, Shirley and J. L. returned to their forever home in Vada. She was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church.

Shirley tended the details in life. She made sure her home was a happy place for family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress; one project including sewing an entire wardrobe. Shirley loved raising bird dogs and treated them like her children. Puppies knew unconditional love from the moment they opened their eyes because Shirley’s smile is the first thing they saw.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, J.L. Thompson; her daughter, Peggy Thompson Mason and her husband, Greg of Covington, Ga.; and her grandson, Cody Mason. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Darrell Leonard Thompson; and her siblings, Norwood Foister, Mildred Allen, Dorothy Shiver, Preston Foister, Lois Glover and Louise Morris.
