Wanda Thomas, a member of the Bainbridge Lions Club Special Olympics Committee, updated her fellow members Wednesday on the latest news involving Decatur County Special Olympics.

There are three major special Olympics events put on each year by the local Special Olympics committee,” Thomas said in opening her remarks. “We have bowling competition, track and field competition and a snowflake ball during the spring ball season.”

Thomas further pointed out that the competition at the track and field competition events is very intense. “The competitors get real excited when their buses pass crowds cheering for them, as their buses travel down Shotwell Street on the way to their competition site, usually at the Bainbridge High School track.

“There are also a lot of high fives that transpire when a competitor makes a strike at the bowling competition.
“They continue to get excited when the Snowflake Ball rolls around,” Thomas continued. “They all dress in their Sunday finest and have a spring ball around the time as the Bainbridge High School junior senior prom.”

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, Lion Joe Crine presented program chairman Jason Williams of Williams South Georgia with the Joe Crine Award, which is given every year in his name to someone whose support was vital to the band program. Williams South Georgia RV Center provided outstanding care to the band vehicles.

Lion Jim Beck won a $25.00 gift certificate from the country club.
