Bainbridge FFA members compete in area five career development events

For 41 FFA members long hours of practice paid off as they competed in the Area 5 Floral Design Career Development Event held at Brooks County High School.
Placing 1st in the junior division competition, and receiving a Gold Emblem award was Reese Godby. Also competing representing Bainbridge High School was Kathryn Cohen competing in the senior division placing 7th and receiving a Silver emblem. Reese will be competing in the State Floral Design Career Development Event in December at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. These students were trained by Ms. April Bryant of Flowers & More and their agriculture education teacher Victoria Hill.
Reese Godby said “This is my favorite career development event of the year”.

The FFA Floral Design competition consists of a written exam, identification of florist plants and equipment, and a hands-on skills test in creation of a given floral design.
The competition is based on the educational objectives of the Georgia Agriculture Education horticulture curriculum and standard practices in the horticulture industry.
Bainbridge FFA Meats Evaluation Team Places in Area Event
The Bainbridge FFA Junior and Senior Meats Evaluation Team recently placed 1st in the Area 5 FFA Meats Evaluation & Technology Career Development Event. The event was held at Brooks County High School in Quitman, GA on September 24, 2019. Sara Matthews was 2nd place high individual overall for the senior competition. Rachel Hayes was the high individual overall for the junior competition.
The Meats Evaluation & Technology Career Development Event develops the abilities of students to evaluate meat animal products in order to optimize economic returns to producers and industry as well as to meet the needs of consumers. The event motivates students to become knowledgeable consumers of meat and meat animal products. Participants take a written examination, identify retail cuts, and grade carcasses on quality and yield grade. Junior Team members include Rylan Bland, McKenzie Hand, Rachel Hayes and Macy Goodman. Senior Team members include Cole Buchanan, Casey Clemons, Sara Matthews and Mackenzie Pickle. These teams were coached by Mr. Mark Lashley.
Bainbridge FFA Team Places in Area Farm Business Management Career Development Event
The Bainbridge FFA Farm Business Management Team recently placed 2nd in the Area 5 FFA Farm Business Management Career Development Event. The event was held at Brooks County High School in Quitman, GA on September 24, 2019.
Farm Business Management team members are Ashton Aldridge, Kaycee Brooks, Brent Miller, and Weston Powell. The Farm Business Management Career Development Event develops the abilities to apply the economic principles and concepts used in analyzing farm-ranch business management decisions.
These students will be competing in the state Career Development Event at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga in December. This team was trained by Victoria Hill.
Bryson Faircloth Places at Area FFA Tractor Operations and Maintenance CDE
Bainbridge FFA member Bryson Faircloth recently placed 5th in the Area 5 FFA Agricultural Tractor & Machinery Operations & Maintenance Career Development Event. The event was held at Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia on September 24, 2019. Bryson was trained by Mr. Mark Lashley and Ms. Victoria Hill.
Bryson Faircloth a senior at BHS is the son of Dana and Jesse Griffin and Randy and Rona Faircloth of Bainbridge.
Dax Willis Participates in Area FFA Quiz CDE
Bainbridge FFA member Dax Willis recently participated in the Area 5 FFA Quiz Career Development Event. The event was held at Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia on September 24, 2019. Dax was trained by Faith Taunton and Ms. Victoria Hill.
Dax Willis is a freshman at BHS is the son of Cathy and Tommy Willis of Bainbridge.
The purpose of career development event is to connect students with not only what is taught in the classroom and practices utilized in the agriculture industry. Additionally, these competitions promote academic achievement and competence for students who seek a future in the agriculture industry.
