I’m usually one who could care less how other teams in my team’s conference do in their bowl games, but I have to say, the SEC really showed up this bowl season.

Out of the nine bowl games played, the SEC went 7-2. Those two losses were by Mississippi State to Louisville 38-28 and Auburn to Minnesota 31-24. For the record, MSU just fired coach Joe Moorhead Friday morning. And Auburn… well, they’re going to Auburn���Beat Alabama in an instant Iron Bowl classic and goof up against Minnesota.

The ugliest conference bowl record is the Big 12. If it weren’t for Texas coach Tom Herman shaking up his staff in a good way before the Alamo Bowl, they might have lost to Utah. Instead, the Longhorns represent the lone bowl win for the Big 12 conference, a 1-5 record overall.

Thankfully, the Georgia Bulldogs helped that record right along by beating Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. After last season’s sleepy performance in the same bowl game, I was excited to see the Dawgs looking inspired. With the excitement and jubilation that the players showed after the win, I can’t agree with the premise that the bowl games don’t matter anymore. They absolutely do. Maybe not for the fair-weather fans, but for the program.

It feels good to see Georgia end the season with a win for the first time in a few seasons, and hopefully the program will get another W with the incoming 2020 recruiting class.
