Janie Little Smallwood, 92, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Monday, January 27, 2020.The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at

Attapulgus United Methodist Church in Attapulgus, Ga. with Rev. Lynn Hurley and Rev. Heath Neal officiating.  Interment will be at Attapulgus Cemetery with Clayton Cooper, Carter Cooper, Heath Neal, Spencer Litland, Thomas F. “Trey” Smallwood, III, and Jay Noble serving as active pallbearers.

Janie was born June 20, 1927 in Tarrant City, Ala., the daughter of Lennie Olin Little and Mildred Estelle Ingram Little.  She was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham, Ala., Class of 1944.  She received her BS from University of Alabama, her MEd from Florida State University, and her PhD from Florida State University.  She was an educator in the Decatur County School System.  Janie’s professional associations include the DCAE, GAE, NAE, PAGE, GACIS (served as state president), and Delta Kappa Gamma (served as state and local president).  She was selected Decatur County Woman of the Year in 1984.  She was an active member in Attapulgus United Methodist Church where she served as the church pianist for 70 years.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Fredrick Smallwood of Bainbridge; her daughters, Sue S. Cooper and her husband, Carl, of Gallatin, Tenn., and Betty S. Hotchkiss and her husband, Mike, of Haddock, Ga.; her grandchildren, Clayton Cooper (Amanda), Karen Neal (Heath), Rachel Litland (Spencer), Trey Smallwood, and Marissa Smallwood; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, T. F. “Tommy” Smallwood, Jr.
