A former Bainbridge resident is suing the City of Bainbridge and former Bainbridge Public Safety Investigator Chip Nix, accusing both of civil rights violations that occurred against him during a trial at the Decatur County Courthouse in August 2019.

Greg McDonald was indicted in August 2017 on two counts of Child Molestation, one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery and one count of Sexual Battery. He was found not guilty on all four counts after a two-day trial in August 2019.

According to the lawsuit, the City of Bainbridge is accused of failing to adequately supervise, train or screen Nix, who is also accused of attempting to influence the jury during McDonald’s trial. McDonald is seeking $12 million in damages from the City of Bainbridge and another $12 million in damages from Nix for his “injury, pain, suffering and mental anguish,” the lawsuit states. The lawsuit was filed in the District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
