Last week in Albany the Bainbridge Lady Bearcat varsity soccer team took a 2-0 halftime lead before erupting with seven goals the second half for the 9-0 win over the host Dougherty Lady Trojans.

Bainbridge Scored their initial goal by Bainbridge Sophomore midfielder Evelyn Mach in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. The score was the end result of an attack by Bainbridge just outside the Dougherty Penalty area. The ball was sent in and bounced off several players until it was collected by Mach. She then took a shot at the top of the arch of penalty area and scored from 23 yards out.

Lady Bearcat Senior Forward Jamya Brinson scored on a breakaway in the 26th minute, following a pass by Mach to make the score 2-0.

To begin the second half Bainbridge Brinson scored again to increase the score to 3-0 in the 43rd minute. Senior midfielder Taylor Emmons picked up the assist as she passed to Brinson at the six yard box, who sent the scoring shot in for a goal from the spot.

Emmons then scored unassisted two minutes later to give Bainbridge a 4-0 lead Bainbridge was ruled offsides and the ball was placed in the corner of the Lady Trojans touchline. The defender tried to clear the ball, but it was intercepted by Emmons, just outside the penalty area,  who took a touch of the ball,  before driving a scoring shot from 12 yards away.

In the 50th minute, the Lady Cats scored again as Brinson sent in a corner kick that the Lady Trojan defense tried to clear, but instead found Mach just feet in front of the Dougherty goal mouth. She quickly knocked it in for her second goal on the night, giving Bainbridge  a comfortable 5-0 cushion.

A minute later Brinson assisted Bainbridge Junior Forward Sarah Victor who got behind the defense on a breakaway that vaulted the score at 6-0.

Bainbridge scored their next two goals within the space of a minute to elevate the score at 8-0. The seventh score came by the way of  Emmons who scored again in the 58th minute , on a nice shot outside the penalty area assisted by Bainbridge Junior Midfielder Emma Briggs. The eighth goal was by Sophomore Midfielder Aubrey Hill who being assisted by Brinson 45 seconds later.

In the 78th minute as Senior Midfielder Ashton Brock dropped a pass back to Junior Midfielder Britney Lopez who shot from twelve yards away with the ball crossing the goal resulting in the ninth goal and final goal.

The win raised the Lady Cats overall record at 4-5 on the season. Before the win Bainbridge had previously dropped a 6-0 decision to Veterans High School.

Following the win Coach Ariail stated “I feel the girls did a great job in splitting our recent contests.” Against Veterans we faced a physical opponent and let several slip in, but did a great job rebounding with Dougherty as we controlled the contest from the outset.”

I am proud of how hard our girls have competed all season Senior midfielders Taylor Emmone, Jamya Brinson, Genesi Martinez,  along with defenders Sandy Baker, Noelle Tyre, McKenna Stegall, and versatile Ashton Brock have given leadership and being team players. Senior Midfielder Mackenzie Pickle, injured early in the season, has also been a positive contributor despite her setback.

Also contributing throughout the season with a great effor have been Juinors Britney Lopez, Emma Briggs, Sarah Victor, Goal Keeper Kelaya Pryor and Jennifer Pascual. Sophomores Evelyn Mach, Abey Hill, Anna Kate Littleton, Maloree Inlow, and Abby Surratt have also been steady thorughout.”

Currently all Spring sports play has been suspended due to the Coronous Virus, with future scheduled soccer dates currently on hold.
