Taresa Jean Maxwell was born July 16, 1957 in Bainbridge, Ga., the daughter of Gene and Dorothy Kelly Maxwell. She was a graduate of Cairo High School. She married Lamar Maxwell and moved to the big city of Attapulgus, where she has spent the last forty years. Taresa was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church and served as the unofficial chief of Attapulgus Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Taresa was one-of-a-kind. She loved and she loved BIG. She didn’t mind telling you exactly what she thought, even in the “church house”. She was a prayer warrior who cared deeply for others. Even during her most trying days, she managed to lift others up in prayer. She considered all her people “family” and didn’t discriminate with her cuttin’ up. She loved the outdoors, especially if she was camping or fishing. Taresa enjoyed gospel music and church sings. Her love language was food and there was always plenty in case extras showed up.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Lamar Maxwell; her siblings, Brenda Maxwell Shephard (Jimmy) and Kimberly Maxwell King (Curtis); her sister-in-law, Thelma Maxwell Lewis (Gene); several nieces & nephews; her special people, Carole Poitevint, Amy, Aubri & Kell Donalson and their family; and her best dog, Rowdy. In addition to her parents, Taresa was preceded in death by her brother, Randall Eugene Maxwell.
