Emma Jean Brock was born December 8, 1952 in Bainbridge, Ga., the daughter of Ennis and Evelyn Dickens Brock. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1970 and earned an Education Specialist degree from Valdosta State University. Jeanie married Jimmie Bowen in 1982 and they made their home in Bainbridge. She was a member of Unity Church of God.
Jeanie had a servant’s heart. Her nature was to nurture. She always put others first and wanted the best for the students and teachers in Decatur County Schools. Jeanie spent decades advocating for others as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and in roles with migrant education and RESA. Jeanie would say her greatest treasure was her family. She enjoyed spending time with them especially during Sunday lunch where she often served her specialty, Southern cornbread dressing.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Jimmie Bowen; her children, Christina & Justin Logue and Christopher & Laura Bowen, all of Bainbridge; her parents, Ennis & Evelyn Brock; her brother, Nick Brock; and her favorite grandson, Everett.
