Romeo Stubbs was born on May 7, 1950, to the union of Ben Stubbs and Carrie Mitchell Stubbs in Bainbridge, Georgia. He was the 7^th of 12 children.

At an early age, he gave his life to Christ, joining the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where he remained stalwart member throughout his life.  He loved attending church services and Sunday school.  As long as he was able to drive his trusty Ford truck, most Sunday mornings found him at a church somewhere in Decatur County.

He attended West Bainbridge Elementary and Hutto High.  He proudly donned the black and gold uniform of the winning Hutto Tigers football team as running back, offensive guard, and defensive linebacker.

After attending Albany State College for a year, the allure of farming and the outdoors drew him back to the family farm. During the Vietnam Conflict, he joined the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of sergeant.  His service included the Military Police at Fort Benning, Georgia.

He also raised goats for sale.  His colorful work history included a stent at Stones Building Supply and the sulfur plant.

Romeo was among the African Americans who helped to break the color barrier at Georgia Power in Decatur County when he became a lineman.  He worked at Georgia Power for several years.  Being very community minded, he was one of the founding members of Men on A Mission Civic Group.

As his health waned, he continued raising and selling cattle with the vital support of his brother Abraham, first-cousin Ronald Stubbs, and nephew Milton.  Marlon, Tyrone, and Duron Breedlove faithfully supplied hay feed.

He was a farmer at heart, and liked to see things grow.  This past spring, with the help of his brother Abraham and first-cousin Ron, for the first time in quite a few years, he planted a garden—perhaps a testimony to his belief that he was going to be around for the harvest and beyond.

Romeo was predeceased by his parents, Ben (“Boulie”) and Carrie Mitchell Stubbs, and elder brothers Henry and Nicodemus.  He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved son, Cory; siblings, Cleo, Robert Cedric, Mary Frances, Annie Corcoran, Bernice Thaxton, Abraham (Beverly), Lyn Talley (James), and Jeremiah (Deidre); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
