On Wednesday afternoon, Bainbridge Public Safety officers rushed to the playground area of the Earle May Boat Basin, responding to report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the roadway.
Decatur County Sheriff deputies provided assistance. The scene was secured while medics treated the victim, who had sustained a bullet wound to his right thigh.
According to the victim, whose name has not yet been released, he was walking toward the playground, when a car pulled up and a man got out, made contact with him, then shot him. He stated that after the shooting, the car fled the scene on College Street.
The victim provided a description of the car, which was given out via radio dispatch. Shortly afterward, Sergeant Jason Hayes noticed a vehicle matching that description.
Hayes tried to stop the vehicle, which sped up and lead Hayes on a pursuit from Alice Street, past the Courtes de Emerald complex, to Alabama Street. The vehicle eventually stopped on Stinson Street, with two men running from the vehicle. Hayes radioed in the men’s description and direction before approaching the vehicle and arresting the only passenger left, DeAnn Rochelle Hayes.
Officer Rob Green received a tip from a witness, who saw two men matching the suspect’s description jumping a fence.
In the same area described to Green, Deputy Gary Hines and BPS Investigator Chris Jordan then encountered a man on Potter Street near Bainbridge Street who was sweating and breathing heavily. His clothes matched that of one of the suspects.
The man, Justin J’Amaal Faulk, was searched and arrested, with a 9mm bullet and a bag of white and yellow pills in his front pants pocket.
The shooting victim was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment. The firearm used was recovered by Hayes near one of the apartment buildings at the Courtes de Emerald complex and turned over to Jordan. The gun was loaded with a round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Faulk, 25, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and criminal attempt to sell dangerous drugs.
Hayes, 21, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and criminal attempt to sell dangerous drugs.
The third subject involved in the shooting has been identified as Andre’ Rashad Hayes.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact BPS Investigator Chris Jordan at 229-248-2038. The case is still under investigation and additional arrests and charges are pending.
