The Bainbridge Wrestling team has had a rocky first few days of practice as they prepare for the upcoming season, as Coach Chad Smith was out on quarantine due to COVID worries. This resulted in practice being pushed from Monday to Tuesday, and Assistant Coach Colby Moore overseeing practice, which consisted of running to prep for conditioning. Actual wrestling practice began this past Tuesday.
This season has 12 new wrestlers joining the team, while some of the returning wrestlers are currently preoccupied on the football team.
“We have some question marks,” Moore said of the team’s composition, “but if some of our 9th graders step up we can be pretty competitive.”
Coach Smith weighed in on the upcoming season as well.
“We are in a rebuilding season as far as having veteran wrestlers, we graduated the largest group of seniors we have had in a long time at seven seniors.”
He also spoke up on the new 9th graders joining the team, “I am really looking forward to seeing what the upcoming 9th graders can do to contribute. There is a lot of talent and athletic ability in that group. Of the 9th graders, Andrew Carnes and Bradley Marshburn wrestled for the BHS JV squad as 8th graders last year, so I expect a lot from them.”
The first wrestling match will be away at Tallahassee, starting at 4:00 PM.
