The BHS Wrestling Cats attended the Valdosta Wildcat Invitational over the holiday break. There they competed against teams like Clay, Colquitt, Valdosta and TCC, to name a few.
The Cats came in 11th as a team, though they only had roughly half the team, due to COVID. Hunter Harris came in 3rd, at 160 lbs.; Thomas Neal came in 5th at 220lbs.; and Lawson Singleton was 4th at 220, after a four week absence due to COVID quarantines. As for JV, Layton Burris came in 2nd at 126 lbs.; Donye Mills came in 5th weighing at 145 lbs.; Ethan Castro came in 1st at 160 lbs.; and both Noah Canseco and Aiden Angle came in 6th, Angle at 126 lbs.
“I was really proud of the way Hunter wrestled. He is one of those kids that always gives 100% and is very coachable,” Coach Chad Smith told the Post Searchlight. “This is the biggest tournament of the year besides the state finals. Hunter has a real chance at winning a 4a Region Title if he continues to wrestle like he did this past week. I was also really proud of our 8th grade wrestlers who chose to join the BHS team when their season was over with. Being a middle schooler but wrestling high school kids takes courage and they have it.”
