Rufus “Doc” Baxley Dukes, 74, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

Rufus Baxley Dukes was born March 1, 1946 in Donalsonville, Ga., the son of Rufus Chason Butler Dukes and Inez Lovering Dukes of Brinson, Ga. “Doc” attended West Bainbridge High School. He worked as a truck driver for many years, hauling for Flint River Mills, Elberta Crate and Pepsi Cola. “Doc” enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and riding his tractor. Idle time was never on his agenda. “Doc” was a member of Christian Faith Church.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Madine Dukes; his children, Chris & Mandy Dukes, Connie & Mark Conner, all of Bainbridge, and Rhett & Jessica Sousa of Tallahassee, Fla.; his sister, Mary Frances Wisham of Tampa, Fla.; and his grandchildren, McKale, Kaleb, Hunter, and Ryder. In addition to his parents, “Doc” was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Cox and Wesley “Buddy” Dukes.
