The 8th grade band students had a unique opportunity to speak and work with Mr. Richard Saucedo, composer of “As Tears Fall on Dawn’s New Light”, which is one of the pieces the band is preparing for our state assessment on March 25th. They were able to perform the piece for him, and receive feedback on the progress they have made thus far. Mr. Parker reached out to Mr. Saucedo via email to set this up. “It’s always a unique experience for the students to work together with the person who composed the piece. Clarinet player Alexandra Scott said “ it was great to learn and to hear what we are doing correctly and how we can improve. Tuba player Natalie Moore thought it was a neat experience to learn and have the opportunity that we normally do not get to have. Mr. Parker said “He is always looking for different musicians, whether it be a composer or another band director to introduce our students and get a different perspective. Music is the one area where people can continue to do long after they are done with school. I am very proud of the progress they have made, and looking forward to our performance on March 25th.
