The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity Soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat Cairo 3-1, in a region 1-4A contest, last Thursday at Centennial Field .
Despite a first half that the Lady Cats had an edge in possession, it was the Lady Syrupmakers who struck first with a goal in the 38th minute of the initial stanza.
Cairo Freshman forward Anna Hernandez received a long pass from Cairo midfielder Lauren Jones in the Bainbridge Penalty area and split two defenders scoring on a 12 yard shot giving the Lady Syrupmakers a 1-0 half time lead.
The lady cats kept up the pressure the second half and finally tied the score with a goal in the 64th minute.
On the play Bainbridge Freshman Midfielder Brenna Conley centered a pass to the top of the Cairo Penalty area, to Lady Cat Junior Nathaly Rodriguez , who quickly received the ball and turned and lofted a shot at the Cairo goal. The ball tipped off of the keeper’s hands and into the goal tying the score.
Five minutes later Rodriguez scored again this time sliding in and beating the goalkeeper to give the Lady Cats a 2-1 advantage.
In a nice combination play Bainbridge Junior Abi Surratt passed to Freshman Midfielder Nicole Tyre who sent the ball into space to Rodriguez who finished with a goal from six yards away.
The final goal came, in the last minute of the contest, as Bainbridge Junior Midfielder Aubrey Hill followed up a deflected shot and scored from two yards out.
The scoring play was set up by Junior Midfielder Evelyn Mach who squeezed off a shot between two Cairo defenders that the Lady Syrupmaker goalkeeper knocked away, but in the path of Hill on the back post.
Bainbridge outshot Cairo with 13 shots on Target to two. Senior Goalkeeper Ashanta Peterson had two saves in the victory.
The win elevated the Lady Cats overall record at 5-3 and their Region record at 4-1.
