Mr. George Alvis Norris, age 87, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022, surrounded by his family at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, Georgia.  Services for Mr. Norris were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2022, in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home.  The Rev. Marty Brock officiated. Dewaynne Vick, Theodore Vick, Jr., George Vick, Tony Godinez, Bryan Garcia, and Stan Norris served as pallbearers.  Interment followed in New Home Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, #2.   The family received friends one hour prior the service, beginning at 1:00.

George Alvis Norris was born February 17, 1934, in Climax, Georgia.  His parents, George Watson Norris and Fannie Mae Avery Norris have preceded him in death.  George married Grace Sadler Norris who preceded him in death in 2018.  They were married for 65 years.  He and Grace raised a large family of 10 children.   Mr. Norris attended Ousley Baptist Church.  George loved to sing and listen to country music.  He was talented and played the harmonica.  George began working to aid in caring for his siblings when he was 5 years old.  He worked hard, working mainly milking cows at dairies. Due to health problems, George entered the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.  He lived there for many years.  George liked being part of the church services there, when physically able, and enjoyed playing Bingo.  George dearly loved his family.  He will be deeply missed by his large family and many friends.

Mr. Norris is survived by his children, Katie Norris, Sue Vick (Theodore), Vena Griffin (Carlton), Glenda Norris, all of Quitman, Stanley Norris (Carol) of Valdosta, Georgia, Mark Norris (Becky) of Valdosta, Georgia, James Norris (Tammie) of Lakeland, Georgia, and Jerry Norris (Nancy) of Valdosta.  He is also survived by his sister Patsy Spears of Thomasville, Georgia.  George leaves 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sons, Randy Norris and George Watson Norris.
