Monday night, businesses in the community had the opportunity to attend Spring Creek Charter Academy’s gallery night, where they learned about students’ most recent expeditions.
Expeditions are six to twelve week studies that are centered around SCCA’s science and social studies standards. Expeditions are described as the part of the course that really makes the learning come to life for the students.
Students dig into the standards using real-world experiences, local experts, field work and in-depth research on their given topics. Recent topics included the life cycle of a plant cell, peanuts and the work of George Washington Carver, biomes and habitats and the New Deal.
In each expedition, students are expected to use all areas of study; they research, write, configure and use many critical thinking skills that inspire them to reach higher academic achievement.
Following visits by local businesses, students then had the opportunity to guide their parents through the school and show them their journey of learning on their gallery wall. The gallery wall is featured outside of each classroom and displays work, research projects and photographs taken during each expedition.
“It’s truly a celebration of the learning done by our amazing students,” said Principal Heather Worsley.
Community members are invited to join on Thursday night, as the gallery night continues for friends and family.
