Jo Ann Daughtry was born August 29, 1951, in Hartford, Ala., the daughter of Euel & WillaMae Farris Daughtry. She was a graduate of Troy State University and retired from Decatur County Schools. Jo began her career at Bainbridge High School in 1974 as a classroom teacher. She retired as a guidance counselor but continued to love and support hundreds of her students in their adult lives. She served in the Bainbridge Service Club for over thirty years and was named Member of The Year several times. Jo was Baptist by faith.

Easy spirit described Jo to a tee. She seemed to roll with the punches and figure it out as she went along. Many will testify she was the queen of “don’t sweat the small stuff”. Jo loved history and enjoyed connecting the dots with her students. She worked tirelessly in her yard and made it a sanctuary for the birds. When her hummers arrived, she was delighted. Family, and this certainly included MANY who were not blood-related, held a special place in her heart. Jo kept up with their comings & goings with the spirit of a mother hen.

Survivors include her nieces & nephews, Deborah Daughtry Neal (Patrick) of Montalba, TX, and Ralph Earl Daughtry, Jr. (Becky) of Banner Elk, N.C.; her great-nieces & nephews, Dexter & Sarai, Danae & Matt, Dalton & Lauren, Michelle & Alex, and Sabrina & Orrin; a host of cousins; and her close friends who were like sisters, Barbara Murrah, Debbie Williams, Suzi Bonifay, and Kathy Scott. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Earl Daughtry, Sr. and Emmitte Daughtry.
