Bainbridge, GA (November 28, 2022) – The GBI was requested to investigate the murder of a 16-year-old teenage male who was shot on North Sims Street in Bainbridge, Georgia early Sunday morning. The GBI was contacted about 1:13 a.m. on November 27, 2022, and was asked to respond and assist in the investigation. Agents and Crime Scene Specialists responded.
Preliminary information indicates there was a fight involving a relative of the victim that began in another part of Bainbridge and moved to the Sims Street area where the shooting took place. The victim was not a part of the original fight, nor was he involved in any altercation when and where he was shot. Agents and Bainbridge Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses who were present when the shooting took place. Additionally, Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to locate and stop a vehicle identified as being at the shooting. The occupants of that vehicle were transported to the Decatur County Jail where they were all interviewed by Agents and Bainbridge Detectives later in the morning. A GBI Crime Scene Specialist conducted an examination of the scene and collected evidence. He was also assisted by Bainbridge Public Safety and Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Agents and Bainbridge Investigators continue to follow leads they have received and attempt to locate additional witnesses that have been identified through other completed interviews. Evidence collected by agents will also be processed to aid in the investigation. The victim will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy will be performed. Information learned from the autopsy will further aid in the investigation.
This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090, or Decatur County 911.
