Senior right hander Jeremy Coram, who led coach Scott Miller’s 2009 Bainbridge High School Bearcats in innings pitched and earned run average, signed a baseball scholarship Thursday evening with the Valdosta State University Blazers.

Looking on as Coram, who pitched 48 2\ 3 innings and had a 3.60 earned run average, signed at Fellowship Baptist Church were his parents Bob and Shari Coram, Miller and Bearcats junior varsity coach Kevin Bearden.

After the high school season, he played with Georgia Dugout Club’s All-Star team.

Coram and senior left hander Jon Sirmons, who pitched 41 innings and had an earned run average of 4.1, won the co-pitching award at the recent Bearcats baseball awards banquet.

Coram, who played three years for the Bearcats, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Miller said he couldn’t be happier for Coram who he described as a first class athlete and young man.

“It’s great to see a young man with great parents like Jeremy get the opportunity to continue his baseball career at the college level,” Miller said. “He was a very good pitcher and a strong leader on and off the field.”

Valdosta State head coach Greg Guilliams, reached by telephone Friday morning in Valdosta, said Coram will be an asset to his program.

“Jeremy has a strong arm and outstanding potential,” Guilliams said. “He was a very good pitcher in high school and we think he has a high upside.
