Violeta Dionisio Arenas Adams, age 87, of Atlanta, Ga., passed away on April 26, 2023.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with an escorted procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church for the funeral mass beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Father Tomas Beroch officiating. Interment and graveside services will follow at Roselawn Cemetery with Patrick, Ryan, and Michael Hennessey; Austin Howley; and J. McClain and Christian Bradley serving as active pallbearers. After the graveside service a reception will be held at the home of Joseph Kelly at 424 Madison Street, Climax, Ga.

Violeta was born October 18, 1935 in Manila, Philippines the daughter of Fidel and Laura Dionisio.  She came to the United States of America after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of the Philippines.  Violeta received a scholarship sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation for her Masters Degree in Nursing Administration and Teaching at Columbia University in NYC in 1958.  She took graduate courses in Obstetrics and Neonatal Care.  Violeta furthered her knowledge in coronary nursing care in Thomasville, Ga.  She held the position as an associate professor in nursing care at the University of Illinois. 

In the 60s, Violeta lived in Canada and worked at the University of Regina’s School of Nursing as a nursing consultant, clinical coordinator, and assisted in formulating the curriculum for the School of Nursing in Saskatchewan.  After leaving Canada, Violeta visited the Philippines with her family and volunteered as a nursing consultant in several hospitals. Between 1970 and 1975, she lived with her family in Warm Springs, Montana, then moved to Bainbridge, Ga., in September 1975. In Bainbridge, Violeta served as a nursing instructor at Bainbridge College; Director of Human Resources and Education at the Bainbridge Memorial Hospital; Director of Nursing at Whigham Nursing Home; Registered Nurse Evaluator at First Mental Health in Nashville, Tenn.; Director of Nursing for Glenn-Mor Nursing Home in Thomasville, Ga.; surveyor for Georgia Medical Care Foundation; consultant for Serenity HealthCare in Blakely, Ga.; Registered Nurse for Colquitt Alternative Living; and a consultant and independent contractor for Riverside Place.

Mrs. Adams was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Woman, and was nominated Woman of the Year in 1985 by the Bainbridge Pilot Club. She was a volunteer of the year 1986 of American Heart Association.

Mrs. Adams enjoyed gourmet cooking, gardening, and sewing.

Violeta is survived by her daughters, Vivian Hennessey-Blume (Dan Blume), Valerie Krajicek (Mike Krajicek) and Andrea Bradley (Edward “Clay” Bradley); son, Arnold Arenas; sister, Felicidad Dionisio; grandchildren (Patrick, Ryan, Michael, Austin, Kaitlyn, Maya, J. McClain, Christian, Grayson, Alexis, Ashton, Noel, Apollo); and great grandchildren (Patrick III, Lucas, Rylee, Leighton).

Violeta is preceded in death by Arnolfo Arenas, MD (husband).
