Local audiences were treated to a slightly different take on a story that’s by now familiar to most over the weekend, with the Bainbridge Little Theatre putting on its rendition of “Clue: On Stage”. The play is a stage adaptation of the famous mystery board game it shares its name with.

Krystal Apke, the Little Theatre marketing chair, spoke with the Post-Searchlight about the production. Actual production began on the play in March, right after the theatre concluded its run of “August: Osage County.”

“We worked on this for about six weeks,” Apke said. “It was also in-between hosting SCCA’s drama club and an FSU performance. We didn’t have the house done until two weeks before the show opened to the public.”

The play’s director was Megan Tarnow, who has directed other productions for the Little Theatre, such as the play “Leading Ladies”. “We knew she would be a natural directing another comedy!” Apke said.

According to Apke, the production was well received by audiences, with crowds on Saturday and Sunday being over 100. “The audience’s laughs and interaction with the cast after shows allowed us to see how much they loved it. We even saw some awesome reviews online, which is very encouraging.”

The Little Theatre’s next performance will be a Jr. production, “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” Auditions are scheduled for June 5. The theatre will be changing some things up about this year’s summer auditions, though. “We have previously hosted a summer camp, but are switching things up to meet the needs of our community,” Apke explained. “Our hope is to teach young thespians from ages 8 to 18 what an audition is, hone their acting skills, and show them what it takes to pull off a production. The Junior production will follow a similar format that we do in our main season, this way the kids will be prepared , as we have opportunities for them in the upcoming season!”

Plays lined up for the theatre’s next season include “May We All”, a country jukebox musical from Florida Georgia Line; “The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever”; “Red Velvet Cake Wars”; and “Mary Poppins” will conclude the main season. Other Jr. performances scheduled are “Anastasia Jr.”

“We have packed this upcoming year with some amazing shows,” Apke concluded, “that will hopefully encourage more people to audition, and inspire others to volunteer or become patrons.”
