Members of the Bainbridge Rotary Club gathered at the Kirbo Center on Tuesday for their weekly meeting. The speaker for this week was state senator Sam Watson. Watson took Senator Dean Burke’s position as a representative for District 11 in a special election earlier this year.
“I just wanna first say, thank you, thank you for supporting us and our campaign,” Watson said. “We know it was last minute, we were underneath Christmas, we were underneath New Years, we were underneath National Championship Football, it all happened really fast.”
Prior to his election to State Senate, Watson was a House Rep for District 172. He cited this prior experience as an advantage, having already formed working relationships in Atlanta. “It truly is a relationship game up there,” he said. “You have to know people, and have good relationships with them to get a lot of stuff done.”
Watson went over several of the legislative issues discussed during the four months since his election, ranging from marijuana, to gambling and school vouchers.
After concluding his main speech, Watson took extensive questions from Rotary members.
