UPDATE: The Cooler Road Crossing is set to close on Monday, July 31, at around 12:oo PM, and reopen on Thursday, August 3 by 8:00 PM.
Motorists should be aware of a rail crossing closing, specifically the crossing on Zorn Road, between Bethel Road and Highway 84. Crews are currently replacing rails as part of a large project with CSX. According to Erica Nickel with the Southern Commercial Development contracting firm, this project extends from Valdosta to Dothan, and involves replacing rail joint bars, welding the pieces of track together directly rather than replacing individual joints. The Zorn Road crossing was originally scheduled to close either today or tomorrow, but in actuality closed early on Monday.
Crews have already begun replacing track, and are set to begin repaving the affected parts of the road tomorrow, presumably opening up the crossing by tomorrow afternoon or Friday.
The next rail crossing down, on Cooler Road, is slated to be replaced following the completion of the Zorn project. The Post-Searchlight will provide updates on the closing dates when they become available.
