Downtown Bainbridge was bustling with traffic, both cars and pedestrians, on Friday night, as a crowd of roughly 200 turned out for the city block party. Kitchen South and J-Lo’s both offered food, while Southern Philosophy and The Dam Bar and Billiards had drink tents set up at the Hook and Ladder. The main event of the evening was live music, performed by Tallahassee musician Jason Byrd.
The event was intended to last until 10:30 PM that night; unfortunately, the weather took a turn for the worse, with rain setting in at around 9:30. But according to Randee Eubanks, the city special event coordinator, while the weather scared some attendees off, it didn’t stop others from enjoying themselves. “There were a lot of people who came and stayed, and danced in the rain,” she said.
This is the first time Byrd has performed at a Bainbridge block party; the city heard about Byrd’s performances from local word of mouth. As for the food trucks and bars that participated in the event, Eubanks stated all had a successful night.
“We appreciate everyone coming out, braving the rain, coming out and enjoying Jason Byrd,” Eubanks said. “We hope you enjoyed the show, and we can’t wait to see you at our next event.”
With the block party now behind the city, the next big event planned is this year’s River South Music Festival in October.
