With school back in session, the Firehouse Art Gallery is preparing to resume offering etiquette classes to help teens and young adults prepare for the adult world. Having been on hiatus for the past couple of years, the classes will be taught by Allyson Whittaker of Southwest Georgia Protocol School.

The main focus of the class is “the Social Basics”, and includes everything from place setting, to appropriate phone manners in public, and even the proper way to respond to e-mails.

The classes will be offered to students from the 6th to 12th grades, with meetings held every Monday afternoon, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. “So, primarily maybe students that are looking for internships or jobs, or thinking about college,” Firehouse Executive Director Jessica Polsky said. “It’s a great way to refine their skills, learning eye contact, hand shakes, and also digital etiquette.”

The class has a max size of 20 students, with a registration fee of $140 per student. Classes will begin on Monday, September 11.

Additionally, the Firehouse is also preparing for their After-School Art program, which is also set to begin in September as well, for students from grades 1-6. Students will study a different medium of art each week for six weeks. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with 16 spots available per class, $100 per child. There are also scholarships available to participate in the program.
