Members of the Decatur County Commissioners met for their second meeting of the month on Tuesday afternoon. Following the invocation, pledge and approval of the minutes and agenda, the first item of new business was consideration of a tax levy. According to county administrator Alan Thomas, the new recommended county m&o rate was 8.94, compared with last year’s rate of 9.163. The Decatur County Board of Education’s millage rate is set to remain the same at 14.565. These rates were approved by the commissioners.

Following this, the next business item was a presentation by Randy Rathburn, Jr. from the Georgia Department of Transportation, in regards to potentially placing a roundabout at 27S/Woodhull Road. Some of the commissioners voiced their preference for putting in a traffic light at the road, as opposed to a roundabout, and also stated part of the problem was distracted driving. Rathburn stated that the criteria for putting in a light were not met, and that there have been 27 crashes with 2 fatalities reported at the intersection since 2018. There will be a period for public input on this proposed project before construction.

Following this presentation, the commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding for the planned split between Grady and Decatur County 9-1-1 services.

Next on the agenda, the commissioners approved a resolution for the Rural Transit 5311 Program. Lastly, after approving the errors and releases report, the commissioners went into executive session to discuss litigation. Following this, the meeting was adjourned.
