The Lady Cats beat Thomas County Central 1-0 in a seven-inning nailbiter.
The game was scoreless until the sixth Inning. Pitcher Brenna Conley was on third base for the Lady Cats as second-baseman Haisten Wilkinson walked up to the plate. Wilkinson took a strike, then sacrifice bunted Conley into home.
Conley pitched in the next inning and needed to keep the Yellow Jackets scoreless to secure the win. With two outs and runners on second and third, Conley had to throw one more batter out.
She threw ball, strike, ball, ball, foul to make it a 3-2 count. Conley fired the next pitch over the plate, striking the Yellow Jacket batter out and bringing home a win for the Lady Cats.
“She’s been in that situation before,” said Bainbridge head coach Rex Wade. “That’s what she lives to do.”
Wade gave props to shortstop Haylee Nix and Catcher Abigail Holley for their efforts in keeping the Lady Cats in the game.
“We have some players that have played high-level ball before, and they’ve done a great job of making sure that they continue that,” Wade said
The Lady Cats take on Cairo next week to determine the region champion. The teams play one game at Cario on Tuesday and a doubleheader at Bainbridge on Thursday.
