This past Saturday saw droves of people gather downtown for this year’s River South music festival, with more in attendance than the past several years.
The festivities kicked off early that morning with McKenzie Conder leading a yoga class at Chason Park, followed by a river clean-up. The vendors and food trucks set up shop at noon, while the actual music began at 3:00 PM with the opening act performed by Pickled Holler. Other acts included BoDean & the Poachers, Evan Barber & The Dead Gamblers, and Jeb Gibson. The biggest and final act for the night was Georgia native artist Corey Smith.
This year’s River South saw attendance double, if not triple from last year; City Special Events Coordinator Randee Eubanks attributed this spike in part to Smith being the star performance. She also attributed the higher attendance to better weather, as the previous years had seen rainy or cold weather mar the occasion. The festival also drew visitors from across southwest Georgia, as well as from the north Florida/Tallahassee area.
She stated that local businesses she had spoken with also reported positively about Saturday’s festivities.
“We’re very pleased with the turnout,” she said. “We appreciate people coming out and seeing what all downtown Bainbridge has to offer.”
