Lady Cats win region, Bearcats take second at GHSA 4A region meet

The Lady Cat cross country team is the GHSA 4A Region 1 Champions.
The team finished first at the Regional Invitational held at Bainbridge High School over the weekend.
“We’re very proud of them,” said Bearcats head coach Eric Conner. “They went out, they competed, and they ran like they wanted to win.”
The Lady Cats had five runners finish in the top 10.
Sophomore Enajiya Marcus led the team with a 3rd-place finish and a time of 24:36.30.
Senior Haydyn Klock finished right after Marcus, finishing 4th and running a time of 24:46.40.
Sophomores Alissa Jackson and Teagan Barefoot finished back to back in 6th and 7th with times of 25:27.00 and 25:39.00.
Junior Elana Shifield rounded out the top-10 finishers with a 9th-place finish and a time of 25:45.60.
Senior Kinsey Ward finished 17th with a time of 28:35.90, and freshman Shrija Samanta finished 19th with a time of 31:07.20.
On the Men’s side, The Bearcats finished second in the region.
Seniors Jahlae Sapp and Caden Godwin finished 1st and 2nd individually with times of 17:14.10 and 18:25.10.
Sophomore Gambler Dollar made his way into the top 10 with a 9th-place finish and a time of 20:17.20.
8th grader Jacob Barber finished 14th with a time of 21:18.70.
8th grader Detric Burden finished 17th with a time of 21:39.0
Freshmen Mitchell Carter and Le’Tuan Howard finished back to back in 21st and 22nd with times of 21:47.30 and 21:52.50.
The Bearcats prepare for the state meet coming up this weekend. Conner said he wants his runners to have confidence going into the race.
“There’s no bad runners at state,” Conner said. “So we’re keeping them confident but also having fun with it.”
The state meet will be held at Carrollton High School. The men’s team runs at 12:30 p.m., and the women’s race follows at 1:15 p.m.
