Family gatherings and reunions were more than just occasions to “catch up”. Betty enjoyed every minute of preparing dishes for the next sit-down meal knowing her culinary gifts would trigger memories from days gone by. Betty’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy as they shared their daily antics and accomplishments. Betty kept in tune with the younger folks by watching country music videos and her daily repertoire of soap operas.
Survivors include her children, Cindy & Gary Putnal of Lake Seminole, Betty Jo & William Howell of Bainbridge, and Bobby Hughes also of Bainbridge; her eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hughes; her daughters, Teresa Ann Hughes and Gail Kelley; and her siblings, Mary Ellen Ingram, Patricia Phillips, Ralph Elkins, and Don Elkins.
