Local residents in need lined their cars up at the Salvation Army on Tuesday morning to receive this year’s Thanksgiving food boxes. The Army has given these boxes out for years, with residents applying in advance to receive them. The boxes contain all the necessities for a Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, corn, tea bags, flour, sugar and stuffing, and even a bag of whole potatoes. Much of the individual items were donated, like the sweet potatoes; Walther Farms provided two pallets of bagged whole potatoes, while the 4-H club donated some of the produce. Additionally, Bibles were also packed in with this year’s boxes; these were donated by Bill and Traci Poppell.

All in all, 125 boxes of food were given out.

“It was such a blessing to be bale to give back to people who were so happy to receive,” said Salvation Army Director Merreann McDonald.
