The Climax community gathered together on Saturday for this year’s Swine Time festivities. The day began with the Swine Time 5k Run first thing in the morning, followed by the parade at 10:30. Several politicians attended the festivities, including Bainbridge City Councilwoman Sylvia Washington, County Commissioner George Anderson, and Congressman Sanford Bishop. “We were also very appreciative of Congressman Sandford Bishop for taking the time to celebrate our community festival with us,” Climax Mayor Joseph Kelly said, thanking the representative for his work. “Congressman Bishop has not only had such a positive impact on our small community but also on all the other rural communities throughout Southwest Georgia that he serves.”

Following the parade and opening ceremony, there were over 30 different vendors peddling their wares for attendees, including food trucks and arts and crafts vendors. Live music was performed by Les Oberry and the Caliber Band.

The day’s events did not end with the closing ceremonies, with a tribute show to the Grand Ole Opry held in the Climax school auditorium afterwards. Local Climax Opry members, including Leigh Powell, Jonah Taylor, Sharon Ingram and Katie Floyd, performed classic country songs for the audience.

“I would like to personally thank Glenda Worhsarm, city clerk, and Greg Toole, city maintenance, as well as, all of our sponsors and city council members who made this day possible,” Mayor Kelly said. “Swine Time is a cherished community festival that I did not want to see go away.” He continued, “I and countless others have fond memories of the event and want to continue this tradition for our children and community. We look forward to making this event even bigger and better next year and can’t wait to see everyone at Swine Time 2024!”
