The Bainbridge Salvation Army began handing out this year’s Angel Tree presents first thing Thursday morning. This year saw 138 children registered, ranging in age from newborns to 12 years old. In addition to gifts, the Army also gave out food bags, with the bags themselves having been provided by Georgia Power; lightbulbs were also included in the bags, also provided by Georgia Power. The Army also received a generous donation of milk from the Decatur County school system, which was also distributed that morning.

Children in need can be registered for the Angel Tree program, which provides a brief description of the child (age, gender, clothing sizes and Christmas wishes) for community members to donate.

“We couldn’t do this without the generosity of the people in the community, that just really makes this come together,” Director Merreann McDonald told the Post-Searchlight. “Every toy drive, every little event that people hold, little things like Grace doing ‘bring a toy for admission’, those things go a long way, because it helps us fill in where there’s gaps… It takes a lot to make it all come together.” McDonald also thanked the volunteers that contributed to the event, saying, “It takes volunteers to pull all this off, it takes volunteers to be able to pick up three pallets of milk this morning.”
